Hi all,

Yes, this is the 3rd video in only 1 month from our 00 gauge Garden Railway; the Sutherland Steam Railway!

In this video, taken in the very hot conditions of today(!), we see the first day of the 2010 'Daily Operating Season'. Trains will be running daily from today until the last weekday of September at the following times from Sutherland:-

10:30, 11:45, 13:15, 14:40, 16:00

(Weekend times will differ).

This Video documents the first round trip of the day!

The day's locomotives are:-
*Grange 68XX Class 4-6-0 No6862 "Derwent Grange"
*Pannier 57XX Class 0-6-0 No5775

First shot see's Class 50, "Furious", hauling the ECS into Sutherland. 6862 is first seen at Ashford Turntable, where locomotives are prepared during the summer; Sutherland Shed acting as an engineering works and providing repairs, washouts and maintence. 6862 is turned before making her way to Sutherland to meet the 10:30am service. The loco then departs Sutherland, 'on-time', and also makes an unusual Request Stop at the wayside Hamlet of Grantham. Departing Grantham, 6862 takes a leisurely run to the terminus at Chilvers, passing a quiet Ashford Station and Turntable. Arriving at Chilvers, No5775 is already waiting in the Loop to take over for the returning 11:05am departure time. No6862 then leaves the stock and runs into the loop for stabling until the 12:20pm departure northwards later on.

We then join No5775 as she leaves Chilvers and descends back towards Ashford Turntable. As the Pannier rounds the turntable we notice that the Class 08 has arrived from Sutherland Yard and has dragged the out-of-steam Austerity onto the turntable with her. (68075 will later be taken to Sutherland for a warming fire to be lit in readiness for hauling tomorrow's services alone). No5775 then makes a Request Stop at Ashford before descending into Sutherland through a now silent Grantham. The BR Black Pannier then drops across the Junction near the Loco Works and passed the "Dew Drop Inn" into the Platform. Our final view today shows No5775 backing off the stock and heading off to run round before heading the outward 11:45am train.

Our stock today was the LNER Teak Rake + the Autocoach (W197).

We hope you enjoy this video and will continue watching in the future. We have various plans afoot at the moment for future videos and a select few will make into production later in the year.

All comments welcome as usual.

Enjoy and Best Regards; from all of us at Sutherland Steam Railway!

  • Why dont you get more platform straights and add them to chilvers?

  • @3440cityoftruro The station is already at its longest possible length. lol

  • Hi, like the video, I like Derwent Grange in BR livery and having seen your auto coach I wish that I had bought one,Ive seen a couple for sale recently,It would have gone a treat with my pannier. What make is your turntable, do you leave it out permanently?I am about to add coach and wagon sidings onto my garden railway and need to be able to organise the locos once they have hauled their trains into the sidings. I look forward to more good days in the garden,i look forward to your next vid

  • @gearbox428 The Autocoaches, as you say, are quite common and mine is W197, the BR Maroon Airfix Model and cost me a simple £5 second hand. They run very well and never come off the track. The Turntable is a Hornby model (RRP about £55) and is only put out on special days (i.e. for filming) or for open days. Your new sidings sound great. Good Luck with your future garden railway sessions!

  • What track do you use?

  • @drwhotrainfan Thanks mate. Appreciate that!

  • @LeeWoodsPhotography Hi mate. Sorry for late reply! The material under the track is just general wood. Our uneven surfaces mean that we could not have had just track as it were. The wood isn't ballasted but it is drilled and screwed down into holes drilled into the wall. This creates smooth running and good foundation for track laying. It has served us well for 6 years now. Rain and now have never been a problem...see our other videos mate! :)

  • @LeeWoodsPhotography Everything stays outside mate.

  • @porter6669196327 Cheers mate. Have checked out your latest videos too; very good. Enjoyed them. The weather has been "nice" but as soon as u start moving around to work on your railway it gets "far too hot"! lol. It takes me bout 60-90 minutes to get my railway up to filming standard (i.e. cleaning, loco's, stock, buildings, turntable etc) so it was just too hot, I was stupid to film in that weather lol! Cheers mate. Happy Garden Railwaying!!

  • Love it mate. It sure is the weather for garden railways at the minute. I had a great session on mine saturday afternoon.

Its looking well mate, happy garden railwaying!
