  • yes, have you?

  • Every day, which is why the progress is so evident. Buildings that were collapsing into the street for years are now occupied; a farmers' market happens every Saturday during the summer; a school in ONSL continues to grow; outdoor movies & block parties bring neighbors together; Crown Candy's lines get longer & longer; other businesses have opened or are planning to move in. I could go on and on.

  • okay but theres still plunty of crime going on.

  • Not really in the Old North neighborhood. Crime rates are actually lower in ONSL than in many other better known parts of the city. I'm wondering if you're confusing Old North with north St. Louis in general. It's not perfect, but ONSL the neighborhood (not the entire north side) has come a long way over the past few years and has done a great job of recruiting new residents who are bringing a lot of new energy, ideas, and commitment.

  • Some people will never appreciate beauty. They love their fry-pits and five lane "streets".

Check out "Zone Out: Regulation, Markets, and Choices in Transportation and Metropolitan Land-Use" by Jonathan Levine to see how the "gubmint" fosters suburban sprawl (hint: Its NOT "the market" dictating choice).

  • After being at Crown Candy so many times I can't wait to see what the 14th St. Mall will look like in the future!

  • U2beOne10: Okay, if "Old North St. Louis" is different than "North St. Louis"--then I'll look into it and stop criticizing "Old North St. Louis."

Perhaps they should change the name because having an area mistaken as "North St. Louis" is very bad.

  • You obviously haven't been to Old North St. Louis -- not the entire north side, a specific neighborhood called "Old North St. Louis." If you check the crime stats or visit in person, you'll see that your biases are misinformed and inaccurate.

  • U2beOne10: Why would I want to go visit North St. Louis? I don't want to be carjacked, raped, or mugged.

  • ya i was confusing old north st.louis with north st.louis sorry.
