Since 2002, buses and rubbish trucks in Kyoto City have been running on C-FUEL, a 100% biodiesel produced from waste cooking oil by REVO INTERNATIONAL. It has overcomed the problem of impurities commonly found in wastecooking oil and it is produced in a self sustainable plant that is emitting minimum waste to the environment.
The biodiesel plant built in 2004 was capable of producing 5000 litre per batch of biodiesl and it was already the biggest in Japan. At the present moment, the new plant is able to produce 30kl of biodiesel per day. Housewives from the residence community help to collect up to 130kl of waste oil every year. This will help to cut down 4000 ton of CO2 emission every year. Vehicles running on biodiesel will experience cleaner exhaust with minimum black particulates.
The technology from REVO INTERNATIONAL was also transferred to Thailand in 2006. A similar but smaller scale biodiesel plant was built and has been operating in bangkok since then.
A study was also done on vehicles using C-FEUL form REVO. It was found that there is no damage to the engine and its emission is must clean to that of regular diesel.
