Wintertime in Dundee

you wake up at 5 in the afternoon
because you stayed up till 8 in the morning working

its dark outside because its wintertime
so you stay in bed for another hour

at 6 you have a shower and check your emails
at 7 you need some food and theres none in the flat
so you get out and go to the convenience shop

but its closed

because everything closes at 5 in dundee
and its 7

you trudge back to your flat
and check your emails

you're really hungry now
so you make a sandwich
from two pieces of bread
and two tesco value eggs
now you have no eggs left
and you're still kind of
hungry

you decide to make some coffee
but theres no milk because you drank it all
and the bit you had left
until yesterday went off and you threw it
out

you could get more milk from the
convenience store but that convience store
is conveniently closed
and you could pick some up from the
tesco metro, but thats down the hill
and you dont want to walk all the way down
and back up just for a jug of milk

you could take a taxi but taxis cost
too much at this time of night and there
was a taxi strike so they hiked their
prices even more
you dont have any
change anyway

you could order more milk
from the tesco website but that
would be a waste to pay a delivery charge
for a single item so maybe you should just do
a whole weeks shopping
but you cant because your bank account doesnt have
the balance and even if it did
the delivery is next day

so you still have no milk
for your coffee

you check your emails again

its 9 in the evening
and you're getting tired again
but that doesnt make any sense
because you only even woke up at 5
in a way it does because you have
no energy
and its dark outside
and you have no coffee
you might as well get into
bed because the flat is freezing
and heating costs a fortune
but
you leave your halogen heater on
anyway
because its glow is comforting.

You check your emails again
and start working

you work and work and before long you notice that
its 8 in the morning and your eyes are having
trouble making out whats on the screen anymore

so you fall asleep

when you wake up you notice that the clock says 5
and its dark outside.
