  • banjoboy. It was that Edd Mayfield. He did play for Bill Monroe and he did die in 1958. He died of Leukemia. My name is Scott Mayfield and my dad is Carl. When my grandfather died, my dad and uncle was raised by my Great uncle Smokey. I was very fortunate to meet and develop a relationship with my Great uncle Herb before he died in 2008. There is so much history with my family that I am so proud of! My grandfather recorded like 19 songs with Bill Monroe before he died.

  • @rsfarmsok I spent alot of time with Herb and Dorothy. I was at his funeral. There are some live shows of Edd with Bill that have been floating around for years. I have several of them. Its really great stuff and as good as the studio recordings they did.

  • great sound. don't part with it...

  • Dukeofearlbanjo: I enjoyed your guitar video's.

  • I was at Uncle Herb's funeral; but didn't make it to Uncle Smokey's Funeral. I would love to be able to see some of those video's that you have. Where do you live? What is your name? My email is rsfarmsok@yahoo.com

  • @rsfarmsok Was your grandfather THAT Edd Mayfield? The one who played guitar with Bill Monroe? He was one of my favorite guitar players! But...didn't he die in July 1958?

  • My grandfather, Edd Mayfield played a Martin D-28. He died in 1956 when he was 32. My uncle Freddie has his guitar still and still plays it today.

  • That sucker is a hoss!......Georgia buck!!!!!
