The Understanding Islam through Virtual Worlds project visits a collaborative simulation of Ancient Mesopotamia, present-day Iraq, where writing was invented.

In the process of seeking additional perspectives from modern Muslim women, we came across a "Brief Statement of Hate," by an Arab woman who says she has lived in Iraq, Palestine and Syria among other places. Her letter, which vows to elevate her hate to an art form, underscores the necessity for channeling conflict productively for greater cultural understanding.

  • I don't understand hate that extreme. I don't think it's possible for me to feel it.

Mind you, I've felt pain, and anger, and for a moment, pure hatred, but it always passes very quickly.

Deep, abiding hate directed at a culture or group is beyond me. I cannot comprehend it.

    Keep up the good work!
