Yeah that is what I have heard. I could only afford two of them though so I just have to keep them happy and hopefully they will get along! What was the purpose in putting the separator in?

This species, as with most of the larger cichlids, can become quite agressive towards their partners when they do not respond to the male for spawning. He already nearly killed her and she is only here due to alot of hard work treating her injuries and time to reciver. These are not a species recomended for a novice fish keeper as they need special conditions and tank set ups to get the spawn happening and ensure the safety of both the female and resulting fry.

very cool... I just bought a young pair of wild festae myself. I can only hope they grown up and become partners! Did you have yours together from when they were young?

Yep had them since they were just 1/2" long. They take a fair while to mature and you are definitely better starting with around 6 to 8 fry and then pair them as they grow.
