there isn't a wrong way to play, just about every song has a different way to play it. usually the most complex way sounds best. but ive found that the longer you play the more techniques you find, also if you use the internet for tabs beware. they are usually incorrect or are made by people who dont know what they are doing. my point is your wrong but not stupid.. i know that people can play for 30+ years and still learn new things.
