One could compare this to home made cooking which is this in film and fast food places are like the big productions using CGI... because McDonald's and Berger king may be great but you cant beat home made cooking... and CGI may be cool but what they're doing here you just cant beat.

    ...All that for a lamp.

There most be tens of thousands of times of details like that lamp in this movie.

I can't believe it only took 5 or so years to make!

The medium isn't important, it's the artists ability to create compelling storylines and characters you care about that matters. Saying the medium alone is what makes a film good is exactly what caused 3D to get so big, and made idiot Hollywood executives stop funding 2D and stop motion in the first place. Saying that one medium is crap and one is great is wrong whatever side you're on. All you guys who made this a top comment are all responsible for perpetuating this idea that medium matters.

There is some. Not much. But some.I'd be interested to know what you interpreted as CGI.

I understand the sentiment, but while the amount of work and artistry that went into making Paranorman is mind-blowingly phenomenal, that doesn't mean CGI is "fast food". You'd be surprised exactly how much labour, love and time go into 3D animated works - Pixar and Dreamworks movies don't just occur at the click of a button.
