Highspeed SSD Raid System with Intel 4.0Ghz Quadcore watercooled and GTX280SLI System

Installed 8 Mtron Pro SSDs,
running in Raid 5,
Readspeed is ~700MB/S,
Writespeed is ~550MB/S

Just a little test about system response time after fresh booting,
and.. its AWESAME fast...
The Desktop is 30" in 2560x1600, the video resolution is... lol..way to low to show real whats going on here :P

Why run raid 5 with SDD? Raid 0 but not raid 5. MTBF is ridiculous and predictable so your just wasting the capability and space.

There was some nasty problems in the beginning with SSDs, some SSDs died with an "downsize" to 15MB. I dont wanted to one of the unlucky ones who catch this kind of problem ;) and Raid5 is fast with the 8 drives (+500MB/S is enough for me ;))

The HD videos are CPU bound. I tested my own setup. One Mtron pro is enough to stream 20 full HD videos, but your CPU will stop at about 15-16.

I only have 2 (32gb) of these in raid-0, i'm no millionaire :P

Nice. I'm budgeting for a couple of 160gb intel x-25Ms to stripe in a Mac Pro (500MB/s read & 140MB/s write). Should do nicely as a system drive and for storing applications (I'll use 4x1TB WDRE3 SATA in hardware RAID0 for storing data, scratch disk, etc).

Give it a year or two and we might start to see better performance and larger capacities at consumer prices.
