Mom used to say that prejudice was fear of the unknown, while racism was hatred of the unknown. Anymore, I think it's BOTH. White people fear black people for what they do to each other (they wreck alot of havoc among themselves) and whites hate them for upsetting the peacefulness of the inner nation. They are unpredictable in a society that thrives on predictability --- or at least, it used to. Everyone 'knowns someone black as a friend' but if that were true, then no one would fear or hate.
