4/19/08: The first ever international Record Store Day was in full swing at Pure Pop Records Saturday.

Music fans swarmed the bargain bins and went home armed with old and new records, tapes, and CDs.

Why are indie record stores a vital part of our community? What makes them different from shopping for music online? Is it the atmosphere, the browsing, the hunt for rare finds, the album art or the way a new record smells?

Eva bought her first album at Pure Pop (Ziggy Stardust) years ago and she is back to find out why it is still so special.

  • Anyone know places in the Burlington area that sells record players? :/

  • YES! Recycle North and Speaking VOlumes (both on Pine ST) have them. Also, Urban Outfitters on Church St! Good luck!

  • outstanding!

dad first took me to pure pop when i was very small and it became the archetype by which all other record stores in my life would be measured.

needless to say, none have quite measured up.

thanks for profiling yet another awesome place.

  • I agree, it was the first indie record store I ever set foot inside and it will always be the best.

  • Hey! One of those subtitles should read Pure Pop Shopper/Zombie Warrior.

Long live Pure Pop for Now People!

  • Excellent point! And you are right (referring to your other comment), I should have featured the bathroom, The Pure Pop Pooper! Argh!

  • That Drew Peberdy boy is not to be trusted. This whole "support your local record store day" is just a small part of his ever growing crime syndicate.

  • I live in Wyoming now, but I made it to Pure Pop when I was back in VT! Yay for Pure Pop!

  • "We're in Dire Straits" lol, pun intended I am sure for Dire Straits.

  • That handsome man Drew Peberdy could have his own TV Show.

  • MEDDLE by Pink Floyd!!! I still have a vinyl copy of that classic! And I proud of the fact that I still have my old Technics turnable connected to my stereo.
