Cookingupastory: I have heard that if you put your seeds in the freezer they can be kept indefinately. Like the seed bank they have up in one of the scandinavian countries.

Like DoctorsWife56 said, seeds are quite an investment - so it makes sense you keep track of them - where they are *and* when to plant them. Not crazy - just smart!

The colder you can keep your seeds stored the better for prolonging their lifespan. I overwinter my seed packs in an unheated room during the winter.
I have them in 4 baggies; one for summer veggies, fall veggies, herbs and flowers. I haven't gotten to this stage of organization yet.

great info, HighPlanisWoman - thanks! that makes sense about cold-storing them. I was thinking I could move mine to the garage, but that might prove to be too damp (it's not insulated). thots?

I actually have 4 boxes (I alphabetize mine too).
One is for vegetables and herbs, one is for flowers, one small one for greens, and one is peas and beans. Interesting to then put them in dated baggies...

about what size are the boxes, myrnaukelele? small enough for the seed packets to stand upright? or do you have some sort of dividers too? thanks for sharing your method too.
