I would just like to say that Banos is all open and there is a lot less activity at this time form Tungurahua!

Tunugurahua is not so violent at the moment but it is still on a yellow flag.

Tungurahua has calmed down considerably and is now on a yellow flag but yesterday it did have a little rumble.

I would like to know whether my faithful horse, Alice, who carried me up the slopes of Tungurahua two summers ago is safe and well. And what about the Vaquero and his little daughter who guided us. Are they all OK? I can still taste the mineral salts from the sulphurous stream that we were invited to drink. Must have been good, we're still all OK. John Ellis

Most people from Banos are worried that things could intensify and repeat the scene that is depicted in this old painting found in the church of Banos. Here you can see the image of the virgin & the eruptions of Tungurahua on February 1797 and January 1886. It shows a darkened atmosphere & an apocalyptic scene with lightning & thunder.

From the road sector- Pelileo. On Friday night the volcano Tungurahua threw pyroclastic material accompanied by columns of ash and heavy roar heard 40km away. Today the 30th May 2010, the Geophysical Institute reported that since Friday night until this morning there are gas emissions, with strong roars.
