That seems like a unbelievable waste of space, with those islands and nothing like being in Amsterdam. I am from Holland, what that needs is a curb to keep the cars out and separated. What about the fact that it is as wide as a car? You should actually ride around Holland before comparing a shitty NYC bike lane to their system. I don't understand the logic with most of the bike lanes you see here. It seems completely illogical to have parked cars, then bike lane, then cars driving.

Actually, things have been working great for month now. No collisions in the 9th avenue lane and 95% of motorists respect the red lights.

wow I had no idea they had almost no bike lanes overthere :S .
they must be following the example of the Netherlands / Belgium etc xD
thx for the vid!

what you don't see in this video is the stoplights. The light to the left of the bike lane is specifically for bike traffic, then there's one to the left that regulates the left turn lane from the street. It works like a charm.
Pity this lane isn't a few blocks longer either end - got mildly doored coming down 9th Ave up around 30th towards mid town the other night - where we really need good bike lanes!

Me too! Hey, if this can happen in the most populous city in the country, there's hope ...
