If the aim is to make the robot walk like a person, why aren't we making them walk like people do?
Robot walking methods haven't really changed much. For walking to really work, there need to be onboard micro-processors and inertia/balance/point recognition in progress so it can comprehend its realtime center of balance and make corrections based on that, much like aircraft do.
It'd probably be better balanced if it had a set of motors for smooth motion and a set for subtle precise correction

Hi. Aprox by the year 2020 a laptop will reach the human brain potential for processing data which means that there is a huge market waiting for hundreds of billions dollars to be sold or invested in humanoid robots and intelligent systems. It is the beginning of the bigger industry in human history. Search on Google luisbeck007 you will find the most complete humanoid robot list in the World, good information and interesting issues.
why is the human walking all weird?

Because, he avoided using toes while walking. HOAP-2 robot doesn't have toes. If we demonstrated walking by using toes, the robot won't be able to learn. The human demonstrator also tried to avoid using other joints that the robot doesn't have.
