This video shows the abandoned "Allied checkpint bravo" at Berlin Dreilinden. The US armed forces used this highway checkpoint for custom controlls between West-Berlin and East-Germany during the time when Germany was divided into east and west. A few hundred meters behind the checkpoint bridge came the border and the GDR border controlls.
Now the checkpoint is abandoned and the former restaurant and office rooms are empty, destroyed and dirty. The full building is to rent. A few days ago someone bought this place for only 45.000 Euro. Maybe something new will arise there soon!?
Thank you for the video. It brings a rush of child hood memories of my child hood living in Berlin as an Army Brat. As I watch your video I can remember that building full of soldiers checking in and out as it was mandatory in order for soldiers to get to West Germany for vacation. While it is sad to see the horrible conditions of the building, it is also testament to a bygone time that represents a darker time in History. I moved from Berlin in '91 and visited again in '04. It is changing.
