I think the Chicago Transit authority had these buses

that 6V71 or whatever it´s called sure likes to rev. And then listen to the enormous gap between 1st and 2nd. You wonder how they got out of their own way but they did. I used to ride the TTC fishbowl and haven ridden on a more comfortable bus since.

Man, that sound brings back some memories. Someone was complaining about "that Powerglide." Trust me, the VH9 was a BIG improvement over the original with the throttle interrupt! These are really "Dynaflows"...a four-element torque converter for low range, and clutch to direct drive for high. This one has its shift point set about right. RTD in So Cal used to always set the shift points WAY down on these and the 6-71s to conserve fuel and provide engine braking at lower speed.

@suidrac I agree, but I love TMCs and I wish that Chicago would've order the normal style RTS 06s like NYC/ Detroit. But you are right, those Chicago TMCs gotten even terrible after their 2001 rehabs.

I hate them 2sp PowerGlides.

When I went to Toronto a few years ago I had the pleasure of riding one of these. Brought back many memories. Here in Chicago these were replaced by Flexibles and those ugly god awful TMC's!

not quite...maybe about 110 km/h

No not 110km/h, the bus has a governor on it and is not capable of such a speed. It has a top speed of just under 90km/h as previously stated.
