During the Winter Steam gala of 2009, the Class 104 Diesel Multiple Unit 50455/50517 ran a shuttle service from Consall and Froghall as far as possible towards Oakamoor. This was the first time that this section of the line was opened to trains carrying ordinary members of the public. The state of the track meant that it was only accessible to lightweight diesel railcars, such as the DMU, and there was nowhere for passengers to get out at Oakamoor. That aside, it was nice to see this part of the Churnet Valley opened up, where there is no road and few footpaths. The line may, one day, be extended through Oakamoor tunnel to the village, itself, where a new station would be needed. The original was neglected, set on fire and demolished.
