This was filmed in the Scottish Wildlife Trust (SWT) section of Roslin Glen and shows two nuthatches bringing food to their nest. I have included some close-up, slow motion footage which show the variety of insects and caterpillars these fabuolous birds carry to their young. The footage does include some fleeting views of the young nuthatches which will probably fledge within the following 4-5 days. The close-up shots were filmed using a 400mm lens on a Canon XL-H1A giving enormous magnification. The camera was set up at the base of the nest tree and operated using a remote control, eliminating disturbance. Interestingly the adult birds continued shuttling to- and fro- while I was setting up the camera, completely unconcerned at my presence! The nest is only a few hundred metres from my house; hopefully I will have the youg birds visit my garden once they've fledged.
Good Job :D
