firing the Boys .55 cal (14mm) Anti-Tank Rifle somewhere in New Zealand.
The Boys .55 cal (14mm) Anti-Tank Rifle
Barrel Length: 36" (915mm)
Weight: 36lb (16.3kg) unloaded
Muzzle Velocity: 3250 fps (990m/s)
Penetration: 21mm (.83") @ 300m (328yds)

The British decided on a straight forward approach for their anti-tank rifle solution with a magazine fed (5-round) bolt action rifle, firing a high velocity steel core AP round.
It was adopted in 1937 and issued to troops in the Pacific and later U.S. Marines and Army, where it was effective against Japanese tanks, but of limited practical use.

The Boys was also provided to the Finns for the "Winter War" of 1939 in Europe. It was reported that it was "adequately effective" against the Russian T-26, provided the "soft" points of the tank were hit.
By 1942 the Boys was ineffective and of no practical value and was replaced by the P.I.A.T..

  • I wonder what the cost is per bullet

  • the anti tank rifle.. the best bond former in the world

  • @NJT97 I think Iwanarock, has been rocking the bong. A.T. rifles can be used for harassing fire on modern tanks, but cannot breach their armor, just damage external equipment, and if very lucky, put a dent in the main gun (maybe) At best this will force the vehicle to return for some repairs, then go back to fighting. I would not want to be the guy who has to get that close to a hostile MBT so he can get a few shots off.

  • @NJT97 Cali may have its own regs about 50BMG rifles, but federally the 50BMG is still a regular sporting rifle like a .22LR, and can be bought like one. 50 ammo can be fairly pricey, but surplus ammo can be had at closer to $3.00 a shot if you buy enough. (100+ rounds per order) It depends on where you shop.

  • @NJT97 the backup system in the abramas can be destroyed by heavymg so an at rifle or a modern anti armor rifle can destroy it,the engine its well protected exept the back wich can be pirced by a at rifle or anti material rifle the anti-tank rifles were still usefull even in late ww2 exept against heavy armored tanks

  • @IWANAROCKYEEEAAAA realy???? cuz lat time i heard anti tank rifles became obsolete in the late 1930s

  • @NJT97 the backup sistem can be destroyed by light armor, the engine is olmost unprotected from the back

  • @IWANAROCKYEEEAAAA if it gets through the armor

  • @beardo52 .50 calibers are considered a destructive device in california. and if i remember 50 cal bmg costs at the least 5$ a bullet
