Adding beans to your family long term food storage plan is a priority. Beans are healthy offering lots of fiber and protein. Beans are classified as a vegetable and a meat on the food pyramid. The best thing about beans is they are very inexpensive, taste great, and fills you up. Try my families version of pinto beans with smoked ham hocks.

1 teaspoon - Kosher Salt
1/4 teaspoon - Red Pepper Flakes
1 teaspoons - Hungarian Paprika
4 - Bay Leaves (varies depending on size)
1 teaspoons - Thyme
Pinch - Rosemary
1 1/2 teaspoons - Tellicherry Black Peppercorns
1/4 teaspoons - Ground Cloves
2 Tablespoons - Parsley
Smoke Ham Hocks or Turkey Legs
1 medium or 1/4 large - onion
1 1/2 teaspoons - Franks Red Hot Sauce
Rice (optional)
