for me there are two explanations: maybe she fell so lonely she created an imaginary poor boy to look after. nobody like this kind of story, but for me it may be just a dream which makes her understand happiness can be found in little attentions, and life is worth to live for. the second explanations is sad also, but in an other way: this boy feels so annihilated that after that one moment of happiness, he commits suicide. and as a "parasite" or a "ghost" his body can't even be seen by the man.

New York, I Love You is an incredible film...it's a shame it wasn't a big box office draw. The entire cast: Chris Cooper, Shia LaBeouf, Christina Ricci, Orlando, Bloom, Natalie Portman, Maggie Q, etc., were all at the top of their acting game.

shia in this film was surprisingly amazing. I mean it was a very small part, but goood so intense!! he's a great actor, unfortunately he will be remembered as the kid from transformers! it's a pity that many didn's see films like a Guide to Recognizing your Saints, Tru Confessions and eagle eye. He's good.

so that would be the reason why she actually pictured his dad coming out of the window afterwards, I guess she just felt his pain and tried to understand why he wouldn't want to live anymore.

Well, this is just my perception, but it doesn't make that much sense anyway, so, I'm free to hear some better explanations, lol.
