Alan Villiers, who captained the Pequod, complained that the studio had fitted her with the flimsiest masts and spars, and the heaviest storm canvas. You can see the topmost mast visibly bending under Ishmael's weight as he climbs the ( inauthentic ) rope ladder to the look-out. When sailing they fitted a dummy at the lookout, the live action lookout was filmed in port.
