The sad sad song of how Kevin Barnes got the name of his band, from where and his ex used to live.

Montreal is
Where I began to feel inside
the gray sadness of winter.
When you told me that this isn't it,
And I drove away.

Walking to the statue in the park,
Through snow drifts up over our knees,
And every street sign written in French.
We sat by the statue.
You looked in my eyes,
Then said, "I'm so sorry."

Later, laying on your bed,
Wondering what's going wrong.
Every time I'd ask you'd start crying,
And whisper, "I don't know why,
I only know what I feel,
what a voice says to me"

I may be here now
but I've never left Montreal

  • This song makes me cry :( I wanna hug Kevin Barnes and tell him it's okay because without Montreal and that crazy girl's "voice" we wouldn't have such amazing music created from pure feelings <3

  • Somehow I've only JUST discovered this song and now I can't stop listening to it.

  • i love montreal such a nice city

  • Feel like this band was born with this song haha Its so good

  • really sad :(

  • I recently felt like the singer here...

I now have in MSN, except I altered it.

I may be here now, but I've never left Brantford.

Ironically, my "I may be here now" is actually Montreal, where I've been born and raised. Heh... A nice city, but I'm leaving it soon for something better, something not Montreal and not Brantford.

So in a technicality, I, too, have never left Montreal.

  • This is what makes Of Montreal the greatest of all the Elephant 6 bands. They have grown so much musically yet (I think) have stayed true to the spirit of their music.

  • They won't. If you listen, the early songs aren't nearly as musically or thematically sophisticated as their current incarnation. I like the old albums, but I think their new form is much, much more exciting.

  • me to.
