lol they only remembered now to add spaces? lol that's the oldest feature in linux book (without the flashy stuff which i dont get the point... they copied from compiz anyway...). Bah.. everyone copies from others nowadays. The sad part is that they sell what they have copied :(
I bet Mac OS X has lots of comments in their code saying "This was created in FreeBSD". The FreeBSD policies demand to do so.

@11100shiny I guess I was speaking about this specific Compiz plugin, not about virtual desktop. But this was one year ago, man ! I don't remember anything :⋅D.

I really don't see the point of all this. Most OSes these days are mostly based on UNIX (with the exception of Windows!). The implementation i just saw looks a whole lot like the Mac OS X version to me. I know that "spaces" was just a copied version of what's been around for a very long time. Apple doesn't innovate, but they do a hellava good job at two things; they refine what others have invented and, they're actually not afraid of bringing new types of tech to the masses!!!

@26rompeta I don't see the refinement here. And I guess that by “bringing new types of tech to the masses”, you mean they have a much bigger marketing budget than any linux distribution.

Microsoft rips both mac and linux and mac steals a bit linux and unix. I'm not saying it's right but that it's pointless to argue because it's an endless cycle that will probably never end so it's pointless to argue. I had completely compatible hardware and all drivers installed correctly. The program I made sure was compatible with the version of linux I was using and though the it didn't come with linux preinstalled the system I had had some decent specs so that wasn't the problem.

Yep, but many people are totally convinced that Apple is the innovator and Linux the copier, which is definitely wrong, and that's what I was trying to point out. By the way, which distribution did you used ? This comes as the default in Ubuntu, for example, now, I guess.

It has unix coding and design so from it's core it's a copy so it really doesn't matter if this one feature is stolen. A pc system that I had linux on I tried installing all the software and stuff to make it do the whole spaces thing and it would not do it for some reason. no clue why and I went over a ton of guides.

If I get you right, you are telling me it is okay to steal a feature if you also steal the whole design of your OS ?
I don't get it !
And it works perfect for me. Did you had some compatible hardware, or not ? Did you buy the computer with Linux, or not ?
