Raw Footage: "I Forgot He Was Black"

Hearing Matthews say that he forgot Obama's race reminded me of straight guys in college who randomly said I seemed straight when I discussed football, an action movie, or whatever. Obviously they're not bigots, but I eventually went from just telling myself it was a clumsy compliment to actively calling them out on it.
House cleaning: I'm not at all comparing race with sexual orientation or racism with homophobia or anything. It's comparing apples to alarm clocks. Just making an observation.

I liked the cultural emphasis you put on being black. It reminds me of what someone said about a part of the world being puzzled about Malcom X as a "leader of black people". For over there (and I wish I remember where "there" was, maybe India or South Africa?), they had divisions as "White" "Black" and "Colored", and to them light skinned as he was, he would be "colored" an entirely different segment of society there, "so how could he be a black leader". But here, culturally it is the same.

WAIT JAY UR BLACK?

"not post-racial but rationally racial" awesome

You're funny. I can tell you're Black because you look like you could be my brother, and I'm biracial too ;) Anyway, Chris Matthews cooked up a huge paradoxical heaping of FAIL. Not only did he try and pretend he didn't notice color by MENTIONING Obama's color, he got Obama's "color" wrong. I was screaming at the TV ... "God Chris, he's Half-White too you twit!"

It's kinda how people tell me, "man, you know, you're white to me."
i absolutely hate it!
because i'm mexican, i'm latina. and i'm proud of it as jay smooth said.
i feel ya.
I miss the WBAI studio. I used to do a show there as a high school student called Youth Pulse for 3 years.
I love the concept of rationally racial. I often feel when people say to me "I don't even see you as spanish' (which I hate because I'm not from Spain, I'm Latina. But that's a whole other issue) I find it insulting because it's saying that my heritage and identity is a negative, like they can "look past" this supposed flaw I have. Colorblindness is a load of bull.
