Why don't you use your afterburners when Flash is trying to fly away? The missels would have a much better chance to get him...?

As much of an ass as Flash is, he is a pretty good pilot...unruly and rebellious, but good. Though he is prone to running home to base when he gets a little shot up. Wuss.

Apart from the loss of morale, Flash will leave and you won't be able to fly with him.
