This video is a FOX 9 KMSP Tom Lyden investigative report which aired on 2/13/2008. Steven Baker is a Union 548 millwright from Minneapolis who was injured at work nearly 6 1/2 years ago on 10/5/2001. The 1974 ERISA Act (Employee Retirement Income Security Act) in effect is putting disabled American workers at risk when they and their families are most vulnerable. The "fund administrators" are holding $75K (now worth at least $150K) contributed by Steven Baker's employers over his nearly 30 year career and are releasing just $42K retroactive only to 1/1/2006. Of this, Steven Baker is expected to pay $8K lawyers' fees and sign a letter of "release" even though he was correct in insisting that he is totally and permanently disabled according to "the Plan". Steven Eischen, the Regional Director of the Department of Labor and Douglas J. McCarron, General President of the International United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America UBC should be front and center to protect workers and their families from this kind of white collar deceit! Please contact them and ask them to make this right for Steven Baker.

  • I recognize this problem...I have seen more than a few of these organizations that front a cooperative program, but when it comes time for them to do their job, they don't exist, I find it criminal in their intent, we also have these same kind of counterfeit programs existing at the state level. I have seen my fair share of these and they would have everyone believe they are completely innocent, but again I find it to be a type of criminal abuse...... ThankYou.......

  • I wonder if this guy is on social security? If not, he needs to get his lazy ass back to work

  • My dad worked union and he is still a fan of the union, back 25 years ago they got rid of him and 3 others they all turned 55 and were gone, now they kept the younger guys that made a lower wage, I truely believe a union is only as good as the people in it and that is why I don't think too much of them these days, dont get me wrong I dont think non union is any better, it is people that are the problem, A real union sticks together that is what the word union means.

  • I was actually finding for a oblivion vid. lol

  • Oh ya... FOX one again putting down unions and peoply who are fighting for workers rights and good liveing wages for family's...Ya and what if it happent to a few guys working for a comp. at min. wage..They wouldn't been interviewing them now would they..HA FUNNY RIGHT....Those guy made a good wages for how long and didnt put in for personal INS. for that WHAT IF...

  • Unions don't offer ong term dis, ben.

workmens' comp has to pay them. Corp.

is liable, you work for them. Just short term, 52 weeks. You should get workmens comp and ssi. dis. Sue workmans comp that is what it is for. Our disability ins doesnt pay for auto

accident injuries or work related inj. 27 year member.

  • Does this suprise anyone?! All those years of union dues should have gone towards paying private disability insurance premiums. Unions AREN'T what they used to be! Union members need to find out how often their representatives are going out on company sponsored golf trips.

  • What a joke the so called UBC union Brotherhood is! Most Carpenters are are so brain washed and hoping to get close to Piggy McCarron that it's sick! Carpenters must want to be abused and violated by Piggy MCCARRON and his Pigs. The UBC has pigs like Mike Platt who continues to this day to live the high life off of our work or your work and laughs all the way to the bank. UBC Brooothhood- WHAT A JOKE! Union Carpenters- blind,,scared, and ashamed because deepdown they know.Have a drink, forget it!
