  • Lefty - thanks for posting this sweet video. We have been fans of Renfro Valley ever since I was old enough to walk . We came to a number of all night sings and they were terrific. My mother used to talk about two favorite artists of hers - Farely Holden (I think that's correct spelling) and another, Smoky Ward. There's been many wonderful entertainers who have come and gone there even up to today I know. We've always loved Old Joe Clark and he and son Terry were great together. - Paula

  • @PaulinaRena yes Paulina John lair wrote Take Me Back To Renfro Valley. I think Ralph Gabbard wrote always Wanted To sing In renfro valley and the Parker brothers recorded it. Thanks for the interest

  • QDISPAIR, How many Biscuits was one of the songs the Original Coon Creek Girls sang. They also sang it for the King and Queen of England in 1939. I can get you a copy if you let me know your address thanks for the reply.

  • Thank you Mickey, Glad this brought back memories. We are still on WJR but it is very early in the morning. Come down to Kentucky and see us.

  • Folks, there is nothing better than a weekend at Renfro Valley. Forget the outside world and enjoy. There is a love on stage and in this small venue that I haven't found anywhere else. The musicianship can't be beat. Even from the back you can see every player and watch the moves. Imagine live , inexpensive, music of the highest caliber. Thanks for putting this video together. I'd wanted something to show my friends. :)

  • Dear MushBeeguy:

Thanks a lot for the nice reply. It's folks like you that make the Valley so special. I hope you will keep coming back and bring others with you. Glad you are enjoying the video, will continue to try to post more for you.

    Thank You and God Bless

  • I'm gald to find this. The show was very meaningful to my grandmother in southern Ohio. I listened to the Sunday gathering on WJR in Detroit in the 1970's. It's a bygone era.

  • this is a helluva video

  • John Lair is my grandfather and I am so happy folks keep him in their memories

  • I remember my father listenting to this when i was a young girl!!

  • he photos in this Renfro Valley Keepsake were taken by Elizabeth Ogg Fortner, Eb Fortner, and Coleman Isaac Ogg, of Berea, Ky.

  • Homer and Jethro weren't allowed to get more than two haircuts a year. Jethro said the first thing they did after Jethro finished his Army induction physical was get haircuts!

  • @leftylaws

Thanks Lefty for the information about the Parker Brothers. Do you know if they are performing anywhere right now or recording? When I mentioned them to my sis she told me she had an album by them she bought at Renfro Valley about 20 or so years ago but when she moved it got lost somewhere. I appreciate all you all do for this wonderful entertainment center. - Paula

  • Mr Lair was a gentleman. I was lucky to have known him. My father-in-law, Roy Davidson, played at the barn for several years. He was with the Redbud Trio.
