Wow! Just beautiful,...wish we'd been there. Went to The Ballroom a lot in 80s, sadly too young in '82 but wrapped they played there,...we live in StKilda today largely becaus it was, is, and will always be a Mecca for music. Great gig last night, 30 years later.

@Lieu3C4 Are you going out your way to be a wonderfully pretentious contender for Private Eye's "Pseud's Corner?

Bernard Summers was still singing in a Ian Curtis style.

Yep, I saw them at the Palais the night before with John Cooper Carke, and the 2nd gen Saints.

I cannot decide if Sonic Youth's example of modern music in a classically didactic vein is more purely musical than this early example of New Order's fascination with sound qua sound, one which here truly builds upon itself to transcend the limitations of the venue.

I remember this gig - seemed like there was hardly anyone there after the packed out Palais gig. I think this is where I really decided this was THE band for my life....
II was at this gig. Standing down the in the front row in front of Peter Hook. It was upstairs at the Seaview Ballroom, St Kilda, Melbourne. New Order had played the night before at the Palais Theatre, St Kilda. At the Palais night they opened with 'Your Silent Face'. At the Seaview Ballroom they opened with 'Ceremony'. 'Joy Division' were my favourite band. I was present during New Order's soundcheck at the Seaview Ballroom. They played an instrumental version of 'New Dawn Fades'.

I sold heaps of this gig on VHS back in the 80's , i knew the guy who filmed it.He was perched up high on the right hand side above the bar i think, shouldn' t have been there, but i am glad he was. He filmed The Clash at festival hall too. The days of wonderful bootlegs. This song was known as KW1 (KraftWerk 1) before finally being titled Your Silent Face. It was 40 degrees that day in Melbourne
