Defend our freedom to share (or why SOPA is a bad idea)

SOPA is powered by the capital of 'old media'.

These are folk who want to maintain an old, outmoded and redundant status quo to the detriment of all of us.

Napoleonic justice (guilty till proven innocent) was flawed in its day, and there can be no reason to bring it back today for the pipedream of the 'old media' tycoons that the genie can be put back in the bottle.

This TED talk about SOPA is creative commons, unaltered non-profit media.

That description was written by Thunderf00t. But I'd like to add something more personal to me.

I'm a hobbyist video editor. My favorite thing to do is to combine things that already exist in a new, interesting way that has ever been seen before. Some day, I'd like to do it for a living. This is not something that I will be able to do under the authority of SOPA and PIPA. If these laws pass, my outlet for creativity will forever be a thing of the past. If you like my videos and would like to see more in the coming years, PLEASE, contact your representatives and let them know that we will not support a government that is willing to sell the entire world's freedom of speech for chump change.

I don't really agree with his final statement about court battles. Just look at that mother that recorded her toddler son dancing to a song on youtube and she got brought to court for something like half a million dollars. It's impossible to win against a company that has billions and you have 400$ a week and barely making ends meet. Court battles are part of the problem as well, they are not a level playing field.

@aleutiansrealm  While this is very true, court battles are the lesser of two evils. While not ideal, court battles are more manageable than simply nuking the entire infrastructure of the internet.

Whoever supported SOPA or PIPA should be impeached as well as tried for treason. Same for those who support gun control. They violate the first two amendments and those people are pissing on the constitution. November 6th will be our response to that. VOTE THEM ALL OUT!

Trying to go back to pen and paper, faxes, long distance hauling of printed materials will take time to rebuild and or get the old machines out of mothballs. This is itself will cause an Eco disaster of already dwindling resources . It will Cascade out of control history has proven as much.

@OreoTheWolf True. However the cumulative effect also comes into play. Lets say 1000 or even only 50 of those toddle video like court cases. It's still terrorism against the general public. George Orwell got it right in his novel 1984 That is exactly what SOPA. PIPA, Protect IP, e.t.c is Creating. Megauploab is already shut down and the bills have not passed yet. What happens to the legit stuff on Megauploab. Does US entertainment businesses get our property as well?
