The Metal Gear Solid theme used in MGS2 and 3 was excluded from MGS4 due to allegations of plagiarism. Russian composer Georgy Sviridov's "Pushkin's Garland" is believed to be the song at the center of these claims.

This video layers the two songs on top of one another with pitch and tempo adjusted to match, revealing more than a passing similarity.

  • @RishadMahbub Plagiarism is more complex than someone blatantly stealing the song. The most likely scenario is MGS' composer heard the song some time before, and when approached with the job, he was inspired and came up with this song. He unknowingly plagiarized. It's something that happens nearly subconsciously. The same thing happens with writers... where they read so many different things when they sit down to write they can accidentally use something they read before.

  • its obvious Big Boss gave him the inspiration to make this song back in the 70's

lol i bet harry was like "!" oh noes they found out xD

  • Mother of god

  • @EDDIEinWAR Harry didn't compose it, he remixed it

  • 20 seconds of copy-pasted music. Inspiration? Nay.

  • @therealbigboss12345 Totally agree.

The sviridov is missing something that mgs theme has.

  • @TheBleuBlurr It's about 20 seconds of music. If you'd get your panties in a twist over that then you're not defending your intellectual property, you're just a prick. Regardless of if this was about video games, or if was done in a movie, or a indie record, it's not that huge a deal except to assholes who want to make it out to be one.

  • @mindtoxicity That's terribly naive of you. The song matches note for note. Going with your comparison to writing, it would be as if an author copied another author's paragraph word for word. That's plagiarism, not "unknowingly" inspired. Stop fanboying it up because Snake makes your vagina tickle. If I had the rights to the original song, I would sue their asses into the ground.

  • Holy crap.

  • @Dracula9AntiChapel Слушай ты чё доебался до меня чё делать не чего

  • I kinda wished they just paid the fee and used the song in MGS4

  • @MegadethTestament I take it you haven't been trolled before. :/
