Facing ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), is a challenge that requires courage beyond anything we can imagine. Claire Collier not only had the courage to face this terrible disease, she became a national advocate taking her fight all the way to Washington to change laws and improve lives.

We produced this pro bono profile in association with Dr. Dale Lange after being touched by Claire's spirit and her wonderful family. www.flatplanetfilms.com.

  • Interesting article about a toxic molecule found in pond scum may trigger neurodegenerative diseases such as ALS and Parkinson’s.

Article can be read online at the Miller McCune journal. Title is: Was Lou Gehrigs ALS caused by tap water? It was posted on Jan 5, 2011.

  • Dr. Lange who is in your video is my Doctor.....He's the best! I hope he is yours too......Debbie

  • @scarlet07821 Dr. Lange is a great doctor and person. He is constantly researching new treatments and somehow manages to really care about his patients. Can't ask for better.

  • Nice opening on this video and very cool people. A neighbor was diagnosed with ALS. The physical stuff is bad enough. Add in the psychological elements - which are massive and most people don't see or know about - and it really becomes clear how messed up this disease is.

  • @podoau Probably because they wanted him to spend more on the Iraq War.

  • Wow this is so sad. So glad they changed the law and how cool that they named it after Claire after all the work they did. Claire and her family's work will definitely help others. Something they can always remember.

  • @lesslove4u thats the impression I get. My father had a tripple heart bypass about 10 years ago. The issue of money was never discssed. The Australian government health system covered the whole thing. As it should be.

Why would sections of the American public oppose this ?? My guess is because it might come out of their hard earned ""tax dollar""

  • @podoau The American health care system is a money making business. In The U.S they consider health care a ''privilege'' not a ''right'' unlike Canada and the U.K and many other countries that treat the patient first and expect no ''dollar sign'' included in this process.

  • Gotta love the Americian health care system. Its staggering that Obama wanted to change it so the people could be cared for..yet people strongly objected to his health care reforms
