I like it! I tried a similar home made track system and discovered that my saw blade was not parallel to the track, which caused the saw to bind after a foot or two. How do you make sure perfect parallel between blade and the guide rail at the bottom? And if you have to bolt/unbolt the guide rail a few times from the saw base, would it loosen up and give you alignment issue?

$500 or $600 is if those others are on sale. I'm hoping soon the others will come down in price with a little more competition.

I like it! The festool and dewalt are great, but just like you I couldn't stomach the price. Don't worry about the naysayers I have built my entire kitchen cabinets with my setup, and it has worked great. I even made a modified setup for cutting my soapstone counters. Keep up the inventive woodworking.

You need a zero clearance insert on the rail.

That's nice but you don't get a chip free cut that you get with a dewalt or Festool . You can't make cabinets on the job site with that. I can cut straight with a circ saw with out a guide that not the point.
Steven, what is a zero clearance insert?

If you get a chip-free cut with a dewalt/festool, then why couldnt you get a chip free cut with this method if you use the proper blade and/or if you use your existing high quality circular saw that is built for that? I disagree that a straight cut is not the point, it is the point. Using a fence to cut a straight line is not as accurate or easy as using a track. I'm sure the dewalt/festool is better but it's price is out of reach.
