This is an video of a golf ball levitated on a jet of air. We sprayed a puff of talcum power to visualize the air flow, but I was a little disappointed that you can't see vorticies behind the ball. We angled the air jet by about 30 degrees which spun up the ball to around 40 revolutions per second. I find it appropriate that I found this ball on the bottom of the ocean and now it is hanging in the air. This video was shot at 5000 frames/sec with a 40 usec exposure. The camera is a Vision Research Phantom v7.3 high speed video camera.
I'd have thought that the reason you didn't see any vortices is because the ball is designed to travel with very little drag.
