Wondering what comes next, as the tanks cant get any bigger (probably) so is it the case of history repeating and going back to lightweight, Smaller, smarter, vehicles until they too get massive, and around we go again. Ah i still love the big monster metal. hopefully we will still have some :/

@1who2what3where4when yes big war don't seem as likely maybe china and the u.s..As we're back too pushing now that the terror threat pretty much nill. though your right speed and mobility are key now and once a tank bust a front line and parks in a city it just a target.With helicopters(gunships) and air power able to break front lines and troop packing enough power too kill any tank rpg28/32 and the javelin. MBT like Battleships are just moving aside for IFVs, troops, robots and pinpoint arty.

@starknight97 Yeah speed and mobility seem to be the way at the moment. The days of army v army in huge battles is starting to seem out dated. Smaller armoured vehicles could be the way in a few years.

@1who2what3where4when it a sweet tank no second thought about it. Need a few more bells and wisles to be the best though the TIME of MBT is coming to a end. It'll allot to survive then it might not be a MBT anymore.

@starknight97 Your right it was a challenger 2 not challenger 1, and it was hit 14 rpg's and a Millan AT missile they got from Iran not a TOW.

@beastatlay with a ERA added to it. Lowest armor is top of the tank and lowest front armor is the lowwer Glacis. Any tank hit by a rpg29 has died. No all my data show the era went off it it fail too work vs the Rpg29 made to defeat it. After all Russians are on 3rd and forth gen ERA's. was a CH2 and only the top & back don't have the full composite of the Dorchester Armour mainly the tungsten missing like the DU in the m1a2. Then the rpg28 is more powerful yet.

In that incident the RPG-29 hit the "toe" of the tank, that is, the lower front hull which isn't covered by Chobham armour. The ROMOR ERA package failed to function, which isn't surprising as it was the same one that was fitted to Challenger 1 for the first Gulf War and was first produced in around '87 or '88, when BAE Systems was still British Aerospace!

a challenger 1 was ambushed and hit with 14 rpgs and a tow anti tank missile in the gulf war it slighlty damaged the gun site the crew killed all attackers and drove back to base changed the site overnight and went out the next day and this is the improved version
