Well, its a Candian game actually, so blame M13 and his people ;)
And fighting is about settling on ice differences 1 on 1. There is a code of conduct about it and the aspect of sticking up for yourself and your team as its not as simple as just grabbing onto someone and starting to pound away. If you did that, you're likely to get a billion penalty minutes and means your team is going to be a man short on the ice for most of that period, meaning theyre going concede scores of goals.

I really think the yanks have got it terribly backwards.
"Fighting it legal in the game" you said?
Kids watch these games, is that what we're teaching them now? It's ok to throw a fist at someone the first chance they do something you don't like?
I really don't agree with it.
