Part 2 - Sequences from the original movie "The expression of Emotions in Man and Animals". This project was created by me for the "Darwin Evolution", an exhibition at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon, 2009. Due to the itinerant character of this show, which is yet to be presented in some European cities, this is not the original movie. It's a simplified, shorter and rather different version. It also presents some annoying cuts and a few missing parts of the soundtrack. The movie, based on Darwin's book, narrates, in Portuguese, some amazing observations by this great personality. His thoughts and studies on the subject are compiled in a book: "The expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals", published in 1898. In this book he divides emotions into categories and writes passionately about how similar we animals are, explaining the mechanisms behind each expression. It's such a fascinating book. Emotions like happiness, sadness, fear, terror, anger, love, devotion, among many others, are explored with his unique vision and thirst for knowledge. The movie can be boring for non-Portuguese speakers due to the quantity of text. Hopefully I'll make some English version of this soon, just because the best of it are undoubtedly Darwin's words. A special thanks to all the photographers, musicians and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation who made this project possible.
Cheers!
