~Nice job of bringing her in, apparently an improperly maintained wheel had fallen off upon takeoff, -thus the pilot elected to do a gear-up belly-landing; --but seems a better choice would have been to land on the spark-resistant grassy-dirt.!!

@AryanKnight I asked the same thing. Wet down the grass and let him slide on that. Problem is if the nose had dug in (which has happened) then the plane would have flipped. There was minimal damage, and the craft was flying again in about 2 weeks. The F-111's have all been retured now, so I *may* get to ride in one..:-)

guy had a huge luck he was almost out of fuel. Otherwise we would experience an airstrip covered with flames and jet parts...

What ever aircraft you fly, landing without wheels is no fun. No wonder the one guy grabs his head while running away. This is no fun believe me and very well done to the crew. Its seriously stressful. By the way, love the Air Force moustache on the OC. Seems to be a universal thing amongst AF pilots. Did not die in the 80's. I take it this newish footage.

@zsifk Yes, these guys are supremely well trained - and yes, it was "their job", but how many people would have paniced at the possibility of landing wheels-up ? I've landed a Cessna that way once, about 20 years ago, and it was no fun, believe me.

@AryanKnight A close look shows they caught a barrier cable with the tail hook. Doing so would substantially shorten the slide down the runway as well as ensure the jet keeps pointed forward. All that would substantially reduce damage. Well executed.
