  • @nativeman65 From what I understand the term "savage" to the English during the 1600's was a term that simply meant "uncultured" and not Christianized. It didn't have to do with the Powhatan people being any less than human but rather as the Britons were before the Romans came and brought cultured living to their lands. One of the goals, though probably a distant third behind finding a passage to the east indes and the search for riches, was the conversion of the "savages" to Christianity.
