Alex the parrot was the subject of years of scientific research into animal intelligence. His cognitive abilities were estimated to be equal to those of a human child in preschool. He knew colors, objects, numbers, foods, and had a vocabulary of at least 100 words, which he understood and used in context to communicate with researchers. Amazingly, scientists do not think he was a genius, but merely of average intelligence for a gray parrot.
Plucking, anting, overgrooming, usualy form as a neurotic behavior out of boredom, not stress. More often than not, there is no clear answer as to why. Why do some people bite their nails untill the fingertips are bleeding? Habit alteration is fairly easy with people, but how do you get an animal to stop? Just because they studied him, he didn't live like a lab rat

@xPinkStrifex A grey parrot usually has a life span somewhere around 50 years. He was very young.

Isn't 31years old awefully short for a grey parrot?! Poor baby :(

@Marahslife Alex lived a very stressful life, although he was cared for lovingly by Irene and others, he still had to move across the country countless times. Alex was never treated inhumanely, is was just the nature of the work.
