Puget Sound's only steam powered passenger ship!

This video is an excerpt from the official Tall Ships Tacoma 2008 video, "Wind in the Rigging, which you can view at http://www.northwoodsproductions.com/tallships/index.html.

The Virginia V is the only remaining steam powered vessel of the Puget Sound "Mosquito Fleet", and one of only two remaining steam powered, wooden hulled, propeller driven vessels remaining in the entire United States. She was built in 1992. She is powered by her original 1898 steam plant, transplanted from her predecessor, the Virginia IV. Book a voyage on the Virginia V at www.virginiav.org.

  • I'm happy to see Virginia V as a survivor. I bought a book about her many years ago when she was in dire straits and future uncertain. Not to throw in a money wrench here, but a question that spells doom for old vessels still in good or restored condition. How does SOLAS 2010 affect Virginia V if at all. I believe if passenger capacity is below 50 persons then it doesn't apply? IMHO wood & steam makes the best vessels.

  • Beautiful!!!!!
