@a46474647 That s.t.p. would make you high as saturn for about 3 days straight!!! Can't think of a more powerful drug than that!! The banana peel thing was a total joke!!! STP was certainly for real!!!

Hey Joesavana,Bless you for taking this footage of the Great Banana Dave.I was a part of his group in 68.This may be the only existing film of him.I loved that man.It truly was a great time to be alive in the Village.I would really love to discuss more with you about him if you would please e-mail me.Sleekwinged@yahoo.com.And Dave if your out there somewhere and see this let us know wehats happening now with you.Peace and Love.
I was born in 1992 and I have lived in Chicago for almost all of my life. Even though I was not in the time or place, it is still cool to look back at the past and see what every one was doing. America is not what it used to be from all the old videos I have seen. I feel I was born in the wrong time, even though I love my job as a profesional graphic designer. Really cool footage by the way.

MetalusCinder,
glad you liked the footage. it was just a typical day at the park, everybody
doing their thing and having fun.
your absolutely correct, America is not what it used to be. neither is life.
i love watching films from the 30's and 40's, catching a glimpse of things from
my parents time. maybe thats just "hollywood" though!

I remember the dude playing the guitar as 'Harold'. He had a following known as the 'banana people'. They were promoting the idea that you could get high from smoking banana peels. I guess it was just a goof but it had some of us pretty interested. The 'STP' on his guitar represented some high octane acid that was floating around at the time. I was a hippie from Boston that spent the summers of '67 and '68 in the Village, working at the Figaro. Cool time to be alive in the village!

a46474647,
thanks for the comments.
i never would have thought of such a thing.. i always thought the STP was just one of those things that people did for an interesting flair or something like that.
the park was a great place to get interesting footage of people just doing their thing. i would go there with my 8mm bolex and shoot away.
i believe the park has been redone, and not for the better. i have not been there in years.

It's really nice seeing this.
I'm in Washington Square Park most days during my lunch hour (my office is on 6th Avenue near Waverly).
To think I turned 9 in 1968.
Was this a typical day in the park? It seems pretty crowded.

hi..
i enjoyed taking my 8mm bolex to the park to get interesting footage of the people there.
it was just a typical summer day of everyone having a good time.
it's a shame the park is just a shadow of what it once was.
glad you like the footage though.
regards,
