This award-winning short film gives an unprecedented inside and underground look at being homeless in mid-'90s New York City, from life in the subway tunnels and the former homeless community living in plywood and tarpaper shacks in the Amtrak Tunnel under the West Side Highway, to modern-day "Hoovervilles" on both the Hudson and East Rivers, as well as city parks. The problem has been made more difficult to see by city politicians and major corporations that wanted the city more tourist-friendly, but the homeless have not gone away...

  • Omg. Penthouse apartment to homelessness? How did that happen? And this is sad. I want to cry. I'm so tired of this city not caring. I wish I could do something but I am just a nobody. What can I do to help end homeless? Smh. Sandess

  • Yeah this tunnel still has homeless people in it and Amtrak's Empire Service, Lakeshore Limited, Maple Leaf, Adirondaks, and Ethan Allen express still runs through it.

  • Do homeless people still live or wonder the tunnels? Surely the stations they do...

  • with the rent hikes every single year in New York, who can afford pay rent in this damn city.

  • i have heard that alot of times now about shelters reminding people of being in prison and getting sick and ill off other people staying there, i think i would want to stay in the subway rather then a shelter too.

  • shelter?? I dont wanna die. lololol 11:00

  • The guy from 2:22 Raphael forward was in Dark Days doc living in amtrak tunnel. Was this filmed at the same time? Or did he move back in to the tunnel because at the end of Dark Days he managed to move into an apartment. Anybody knows?

  • @JimmyFraska maybe Lord Issac can comment on this video because as we clearly saw they had a computer down there and all though they might not have wifi but i can assure they have an internet connection cuz what other possible thing wud the Lord be doing with a godam computer

  • The nyc homeless are homeless by choice and they deserve to be because they continue to make the same bad decisions that made them homeless in the first place, however this documentary is also about the elite homeless finding a home underground as Lord Issac explained it was "the best decision of his life" and as the white guy clearly expressed he fucking loves it.

  • I want to meet the Lord of the Tunnel.
