In my experience, I have always done my job to what the home owner wants. If they want to leave the existing siding on, who am I to stop them? Its their house. And if the product you sided over was doing its job fine when exposed to the elements, what is the harm in leaving it there? This way even if water does somehow find its way behind the vinyl, there will still be a layer of kaycan, and a layer of aluminum. What is the big deal?

i would rather have 12" fiber cement smooth lap siding with 10" lap and aluminum siding caps, as well as cedar board and batten with 8" battens in the front and a wood flush garage door, fuck vinyl, it's looks like shit, it traps moisture, it also traps insects, especially wasps and hornets, and it melts at high tempurtures

@hammerzin everyones got their way.we toss the sill trim. We use vinyl jays running underneath the soffit jay and cock the bottom n crimp quick with your snips or a siding crimper easy. And saves you the hassle of worrying if your last row is gonna land stupid like the middle rib.Why not at least hand nail your turning a 15 min gravy wall into a hour?
