WOLF EEL
Anarrhichthys ocellatus
(Playful, pushy and full of personality - thats some fish!)
Wolf eels of the Pacific Northwest are not eels at all, theyre actually fish. But, most divers who know them might consider them dogs.
Telling them apart is easy. The females have a smooth, slender head and body, while the males head is larger and more bulbous.
Adult coloration is blue/grey, while juveniles are usually orange to brown in colour.
Wolf eels live in dens and pair up for years at a time. Their favorite food is crab, but, they will readily eat sea urchin and scallops.
