Understand how PerfectDisk optimizes SSD's: http://blog.raxco.com/2011/06/20/ssd-...

A dark bane consumes the world of computers, and that bane is slow hard disk performance. The bottlenecks of disk I/O and disk fragmentation cannot be understated. Tonight, I delve into this world, and come to only one conclusion. Perfect Disk by Raxco Software. Here is my solemn review.

Statistics:

All laptop fragmentation reduced to 0%. Over hundred and fifty thousands file fragmentations are recorded as having been prevented. A second analysis showed no more than 1% fragmentation after 24 hours of prolonged disk read and write benchmarking.

The optiwrite prevents fragmentation to begin with. They claim with zero performance impact while doing so. While the auto-optimization does run in the background, it only does so when system is idle. But since your disk is pretty much always defragged, it really never has any background work to do anyway.

    In short, no.

I haven't used Diskeeper in years, so, perhaps what I remember is no longer true. But, when I switched from Diskeeper to Perfectdisk around the time of Perfectdisk 7 or so, Diskeeper indeed ran one pass much faster, but, it didn't optimize very much per pass. Perfectdisk took a lot longer to run the first time, but it actually fully defragged the disk in one pass, and then ran much faster thereafter. And now with optiwrite, it prevents fragmentation to begin with.

Smart Placement component is incredibly slow. Diskeeper 2011 is way the fuck faster
