A video of Paka, an African Grey Parrot doing responses to voice commands. Command responses are:

"Call" "Response"

Make the noise "Pop sound"
Hey baby "Wolf whistle"
Here kitty kitty "Meows"
Where's the big dog? "Barks"
Where's the chicken? "Clucks"
Where's the rooster? "Crows"
Sad dog "Whines"
Call the bunny "Cleo"
Oh oh "Spaghettio"
We are the knights who say "NI!"
Ecky Ecky Ecky "Rekow!"
Where are you? "There you are!"
Squirt the shampoo "(raspberry)"
Hände hoch "Puts up wings"
Big Kiss "Kissing noise"
What does donald duck say? "Oh boy"
Are you tired? "Night Night"

  • Paka's great! I wish my husband and I had time to work together with our CAG to train her to respond to questions/commands like that. Did it take the two of you with the model/rival method? Or is Paka just exceptionally smart! ;o) Thanks for posting this entertaining vid!

  • We did use the model/rival method for some of his responses. Others he learned by using a lot of repetition of the command and response we wanted.

  • lol what treats do you use? I have a double yellow headed amazon and i need to know how to reward him for talking but he is almost a year old and may not wanna talk that much quite yet

  • We use pine nuts. They are expensive, but nice and small so he doesn't sit there chewing for a long time. It took Paka 1 1/2 years to say his first word. He's 3 now.
