Why do we continue to advance technology? Is it economically motivated? Is it for a better lifestyle or a higher standard of living? To extend life, forever? Do any of these questions matter?

Nanotechnology is predicted to bring amazing advances for society. But what has not been discussed is if humanity actually needs it.

  • what is the audio track?

  • music clips pieced together from Soundtrack and a text-to-voice application on the web.

  • so what's the background music?

  • it's not one song, it's a collection of sound clips I pieced together using Soundtrack.

  • (more 'late night rambling' than 'result of much thought'. in a nutshell i think the clip makes a reasonable point)

  • Thanks for the comments. In addition to the Morph video, I was inspired by the book "Technopoly" by Neil Postman. It's an eye-opening read if you've not experienced it.

  • I liked your "essay" on nanotechnology. Until we as a civilization can properly utilize the technologies we develop (we have not thus far), we will certainly degrade our environment. How far and how quickly are variables in an unknown equation. When we remove our motivation for the acquisition of wealth and realize that there is more to existence than we currently understand. The technologies will be divisive factors in civilization.

  • can't wait to control your brain through the self replicating nano-robot i invent in my basement

  • Yes lets go back to the rock age, we don't need television nor cars nor lights nor Internet nor cell phones nor even medical and engineering advances nor all this evil scientists, lets ban science !! "sarcasm"

  • If nano materials comming are 100x stronger and 6x lighter than steel, how tall could a building be built?? We saw what steel did compared to brick...I postulate that a space ladder will be here before a space elevator...
